Outlook for 2016

Wellington-SignWellington finally seems to be turning the corner with more than a whiff of positivity in the air.  On the retail front, exciting new shops are on the way, David Jones, Jamie’s Italian Restaurant, Top Shop and Metro New World which will all give Lambton Quay further vitality and will no doubt lift trade in the surrounding shops. News of a convention centre and movie musuem being established in Wakefield Street has been warmly received. At 20 Customhouse Quay, formerly the BP building (now demolished) a new building is emerging which will house AIG & Deloittes in late 2017. This is the first new build of a major office building in the CBD for some time.

Further down the track locals are looking and hoping for a new mayor in the forthcoming October 2016 local body elections so the city gets a forward thinking and dynamic leader. Who that will be remains to be seen but there is a lot of discontent on the streets with the lack of progress the present mayor has made over her past 2 terms

With the announcement of a Singapore Airlines connection from Wellington to direct to Canberra to be established later in the year, the argument for an airport runway extension is gathering momentum. The general consensus seems to be “build and they will come”

So heres to a prosperous 2016 for Wellington!
